World Series titles by franchise, 1903 to 2025

Cumulative World Series championships by franchise, from the first modern Series in 1903 through 2025. · published Aug 2026

About this statistic

The New York Yankees have won 27 World Series, more than double any other franchise. The St. Louis Cardinals are second with 11, followed by the Athletics, Red Sox, and Dodgers at 9 each and the Giants at 8. The Dodgers' 2025 win over Toronto is the most recent.

How it is measured

Each season a franchise wins the World Series adds one to its running total, from the postseason series table of the SABR Lahman Baseball Database (licensed CC BY-SA 3.0). The count starts with the first modern Series in 1903 and follows franchises through relocations, so the Athletics' total spans Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Oakland. No Series was played in 1904 or 1994. The 19th-century championship series of 1884 to 1890 are recorded in the database but kept outside this count.

What the curve shows

The Yankees' run is the spine of the chart: 20 titles between 1923 and 1962, then a slower climb to 27 by 2009. Twenty-five of the 30 active franchises have won at least once. Five are still waiting: the Rockies, Brewers, Padres, Mariners, and Rays.
