United States GDP
Animated chart · GDP (current US$) · 1960–2024
United States GDP rose from $542.0B in 1960 to $28.75T in 2024 — 5,205% higher over 64 years, a compound 6.4% a year. It sits at its highest level on record in 2024. The sharpest single-year move was +13% in 1978, against a 2% fall in 2009. Over the past decade it rose 64%.
The United States has held the title of the world's largest economy for over a century. In current US dollars, its GDP has grown from roughly half a trillion in 1960 to nearly $29 trillion today.
Because this series is measured in current dollars, a good portion of that rise reflects inflation — real (inflation-adjusted) growth is meaningfully slower than the headline number suggests.
