United Kingdom GDP growth, 1961 to 2025

This series shows how much the United Kingdom's economy grew or shrank each year, measured in constant local prices by the World Bank. Growth rates strip out inflation, so a 3 percent reading means real output rose 3 percent. Since 1961 the series has ranged from -10 percent (2020) to 8.5 percent (2021); the latest reading is 1.4 percent for 2025, up from 1.1 percent the period before.

Recessions read as dips below zero. Because the base changes every year, a deep contraction followed by a strong rebound can leave output below its old peak even though the rebound year posts the bigger number.
